Good morning here from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters located in St. Augustine Florida. This month has been slow unfortunately due to the coronavirus and the country shutdown, but I have had some local ppl that fish with me and have scored some really nice trolling trips. Big gaffer mahi, butterball tuna fish, wahoo and billfish all swim around the month of April! Yes it’s a long day, a 11-12 hr Gulfstream trolling trip is what it takes, but the bite can be hot and memories can last a lifetime. When trolling on the offshore fishing charters I try and find any forms of life or different water. I like to look for birds diving or bait. The water has a lot of factors too, with temperature change and color change. If your looking to pass some time deepsea fishing then give us a call. Where open for business and the fishing is good. Let’s go fishing on Drop Down Sport Fish Charters!

Good evening here from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters located in the oldest city St. Augustine Florida . Offshore fishing charters have been at stand still for the last couple weeks with wind blowing upwards of 20-30knts at some days, but small windows did prevail and we got to sneak out a couple times. The times we did go deepsea fishing off St. Augustine the bottom fishing was pretty good with the red snapper bite wide open. In fact we fished 3 different spots with literally nothing except red snapper. Piles of them!! I wish we could get a longer season for them but I don’t foresee that in the future unfortunately. As for the trolling, offshore pelagics are here, tuna fish, wahoo, mahi, sailfish and blue marlin can be caught the next 3 months off of St. Augustine Florida. Ballyhoos are my favorite choice for these offshore game fish with a decent size set up, at least a shimano tld 25 size reel with 30lb plus line with a medium action troll rod. I use shimano tld 50 2 speed and 30 tiagra 2 speed reels with a set of crowder medium action 6”6 troll rods. They seem to have enough flexibility at the tip to not pull hooks on fish at the transom but enough backbone in the lower end of the rod to pull back on the fish. If you are looking for a offshore deepsea fishing trip to remember for a lifetime give Drop Down Sport Fish Charters a call and we can set you up. Now if you booked a trip with us and we get blown out due to weather, we have the inshore fishing charters flats boat to at least get you out on the water and enjoy the day inshore fishing. The red fish bite for me has been solid with a couple trout and flounder too. Live shrimp is all that i really use but there are definitely more baits to choose! The earliest morning lower tide has been the best inshore fishing bite and moving water is key. So here we are, The time is now, let’s go fishing!! Dates are filling up quickly so give us a call on Drop Down Sport Fish Charters. Thanks for reading.

Water depth: 100ft

What's biting: cobia, red snapper , vermillions

For those of you who didn’t know red snapper finally opened up this month for two weekends. Drop Down Sport Fish Charters here in St. Augustine Florida booked out all the snapper days but unfortunately due to the weather we only got to fish two days. Deepsea fishing for red snapper offshore on wreckes was very productive and we had our limts in just a few minutes. Most fish 5-8 pounds but a couple bigger fish near 20lbs. There are several ways to catch red snapper, personally I just like a 4 to 5 foot leader with a number eight or nine circle hook and a 8 ounce lead usually gets the job done. Drop down to the bottom and reel up about 10 cranks just off the bottom and the snappers should be there. Maybe noaa Maine fisheries well realize the seas were way too big and way too rough for anyone to go catch red snapper the weekends they choose out of it being closed for many years!!! Not really fair. Maybe they will reconsider another weekend for anglers to go catch this great tasting fish. Let’s go fishing on Drop Down Sport Fish Charters deepsea offshore.

Drop Down Charters Fishing Report for St. Augustine Florida - 07/16/2017

Bait: live bait

Water temp: 80

Water depth: 65ft-100ft

What's biting: cobia, kingfish, amberjack, snapper, grouper

The fish are biting!!! Let's go fishing!!! St. Augustine Florida is the place to be. Come vacation destination here and do a fishing charter on Drop Down Sport Fish Charters. The fishing had been outstanding the last couple weeks with limits of amberjack and snapper almost every trip. There has been a thermocline in the water but if you can find live bait you can crush some fish offshore. I have been fishing waters in 85-100 ft for amberjack with a fish finder rig but with a very long leader. At least 8ft with flourocarbon leader will help you get the bite. Make sure you wait a few seconds after fish bites to make sure it swallows the bait. As I didn't follow my own rule and lost the biggest cobia I've ever seen two days ago!! The snapper have been on fire as well, using cut sardines is my favorite for big bees. You also catch a variety more fish. I have fished the last 21 days in a row and where dialed in here on Drop Down Sport Fish Charters to kill some fish. Give us a call and let's go fishing!
