Fishing Report – Gulf Stream Action Heating Up!

Good morning from the premier fishing charter in St. Augustine Florida Drop Down Sport Fish Charters. The best St. Augustine fishing charter. Summer might be coming to an end, but the fishing is not in the Oldest City—St. Augustine, Florida. The offshore bite has been hot for barracuda, triggerfish, vermilion snapper (beeliners), seabass and few cobia.

On recent trips with Drop Down Sport Fish Charters we’ve found steady action from 80–140 ft. Barracuda are stacked on the high-relief wrecks—have a wire-stinger rig ready and fire a live bait or flash a spoon for explosive strikes. Triggerfish are thick on the hard bottom; small cut squid on a two-hook rig is lights out. Vermilion snapper are chewing over ledges—drop down cut cigar minnows or squid strips and keep baits just off the bottom for quick limits. Seabass are mixed in; a simple chicken rig with small hooks and cut bait keeps rods bent between snaps.

Best windows have been the first couple hours of daylight and the tide changes when the current eases. Watch your drift, keep leaders light (except for the ’cudas), and don’t be afraid to bump spots until you mark life.
