Drop Down Sport Fish Charters Fishing Report for St. Augustine Florida - 02/04/2018

 Bait: ballyhoo

Water temp: 53 degrees

Water depth: 160 -500ft

What's biting: wahoo, big red snapper

Offshore fishing charters in February here in St. Augustine Florida can be the month to catch big wahoo. I’d say this whole month providing you can get out there is your best bet for a slob. No doubt the high speed troll game is catching on and it can definitely produce some numbers. One thing I like about high speed trolling is it deletes the other bites from trash fish like barracuda, Bonita, bluefish other species because for the most part only wahoo are gonna strike a lure going up to 20knts!!! If you want to go deep sea fishing offshore and catch a big wahoo give us a call let’s see if we can’t make it happen on Drop Down Sport Fish Charters. Let’s go fishing!

A lot of boat maintenance and taking care of my one year old son takes most of my time. If your looking for St.Augustine fishing charters for this summer to go deep sea fishing or inshore fishing make sure you book soon because dates are filling up quickly.

Happy new year from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters here in the oldest city Saint Augustine Florida. Fishing offshore in January is cold as you might expect but deepsea trolling this time of year can be a day you’ll remember for the rest of your life. North east Florida is known for big wahoo this time of year, the next two months, providing the weather let’s you get out are prime. 70+ pounders are common and even Fish up to 100lbs. There are several different  techniques to fish for wahoo, natural baits like ballyhoo on a sea witch is always a favorite. Or you can high speed which seems to be catching on more and more. Trolling big weighted lures at speeds from 12 to 21 knots!! Yes 21+ knots! If you come to St.Augustine Florida in the next couple months and want to go deepsea fishing give Drop Down Sport Fish Charters a call and let’s go see if we can go get a wahoo fish you will remember forever.

What's biting: Wahoo and tuna fish

Merry Christmas everyone from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters here in St.Augustine Florida. Hope everyone had a good year in 2017. Offshore fishing charters have been pretty decent, some wahoo have been caught and a few tunafish, but nothing red hot. When I troll for wahoo deepsea, I like the morning’s and look for structure that holds bait. Blue and white lures with ballyhoo are a go to. As far as inshore fishing goes, redfish trout, black drum, and sheep heads are all biting very well. I have been catching a lot of creek fish on pop and cork floats with live shrimp drifting over oyster bars on an incoming tide.  A fiddler crab on a jig head or fishfinder rig has also been producing black drum on the bottom. Till next time hope everybody has a merry Christmas and a happy new year and  thank you for all of my clients that fished with me this year can’t wait to see everyone next year and 2018 .

Happy holidays from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters here in the oldest city St.Augustine Florida. Fishing offshore in December is one of my favorite months to catch some fat cobias. The brown clown will shop up this month on all the wrecks and large rock piles. Usually they will be hungry ready to eat but the 50lber might require a lil more game. Heavy spin tackle is fished most, 30-50lb line with 60lb fluorocarbon leader does the job. Have multiple rods ready because free swimmers are not uncommon. Just remember when measuring cobia it’s 33” at the fork of the tail, not the total length. Other deepsea fishing this month would include red snapper fishing since noaa opened another weekend December 8-11th. Let’s go fishing on Drop Down Sport Fish Charters! Call for reservations!!!
